Shooting on the Move (Lateral)
***BEFORE STARTING ANY DRYFIRE TRAINING, DOUBLE & TRIPLE CHECK THAT YOUR GUNS & MAGAZINES ARE EMPTY. NO LIVE AMMO SHOULD BE IN YOUR TRAINING AREA.***
Pistol
- Trigger Control At Speed, 10 Reps
- Turning Draws, 10 Reps (Goal: 1.5 sec)
- Reloads, 5 Reps (Goal: 1.5 sec)
- Shooting on the move (lateral), 10 Reps (Goal: ~3.6 sec)
- Draw and engage all 3 targets with 3 rounds each while moving 2-3 yards left or right
- The goal here is to cover the entire distance quickly while shooting, NOT to shoot all the targets while barely moving.
- The rule of thumb for shooting on the move is to treat targets as if they were ~50% farther away (e.g., a 10 yard target on the move is the equivalent difficulty as a static 15 yard target).
- Really pay attention to your sight picture to see what’s happening as you’re moving.
- If you’re having difficulty analyzing your sight picture while moving, do a few runs without pulling the trigger and then go back to the full drill.
- Work on moving faster than feels comfortable to induce errors and then work to fix those errors while moving at the same speed.
Rifle
- Trigger Control At Speed, 10 Reps
- Ready-ups (Low), 5 Reps (Goal: 0.8 sec)
- Reloads, 5 Reps (Goal: 2.5 sec)
- Shooting on the move (lateral), 10 Reps (Goal: ~3.3 sec)
